Holywood Physiotherapy offers an acupuncture based fertility and pregnancy support service.

The approach taken encompasses both Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Western (Medical) Acupuncture.The latter places a strong emphasis on scientific evidence.

Fertility

Acupuncture can be used to support fertility in both men and women.

For women, acupuncture helps to:

• Normalise hormones that regulate ovulation.
• Reduce stress hormones which may affect fertility.
• Improve uterine blood flow and endometrial thickness.

For men, acupuncture may help to:

• Improve sperm counts and motility.
• Reduce stress.

Studies have shown that acupuncture, when used with IVF, may increase the chance of pregnancy and live birth.

Pregnancy

In trained, experienced hands, acupuncture is a safe tool to use throughout pregnancy. Many drugs and pain relieving medications are contra-indicated during pregnancy. Many women prefer a drug-free solution to help manage problems that may arise.
